What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website can store on your device. They are widely used to make websites work, and to understand how people use them. Some cookies are essential for the site to function; others run only if you choose to allow them.

This policy explains the cookies this website uses and the choices you have. For the wider picture of how we handle your personal data, see our Privacy Policy.

Laws that apply to this policy

Cookies and similar technologies are regulated differently depending on where you are:

Where you are Law Regulator
United Kingdom The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
EU / EEA The ePrivacy Directive, as implemented into the national law of your member state The data protection supervisory authority in your EU/EEA country
Australia Australia does not have a dedicated cookie-consent law. Where a cookie collects personal information, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) apply Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)

Because we cannot always tell which of these applies to a particular visitor, we use the same consent-first approach for everyone: non-essential cookies are switched off until you accept them.

Your choice

This website does not currently use any analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to accept or decline right now.

If we introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies in future, we will ask for your consent first: they will be switched off by default and set only if you choose to accept them, and we will update this policy before we do. You can also set your browser to refuse cookies, though this may affect how parts of the site work.

The cookies we use

Essential cookies

These are strictly necessary for the site to work and to keep it secure. They do not track you for marketing purposes and cannot be switched off.

Purpose Provider Duration
Security and abuse prevention, if needed (for example when mitigating automated traffic) Cloudflare (our hosting provider) Short-lived; set only when required, and never used to track you

Analytics cookies

This website does not currently set any analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, or any other analytics service, at this time.

If we introduce analytics in future, it will be optional and switched off by default, set only if you accept it on a consent banner, and we will update this policy first.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Working without non-essential cookies

This website is built to work fully without analytics or other non-essential cookies, and that is how it runs today. If we introduce analytics in future and you decline, the site will work in exactly the same way; declining would only mean we cannot measure usage on your visit.

Changes to this policy

If we add or change the cookies we use, we will update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.

Complaints

If you have a concern about cookies on this website that we have not resolved, you can complain to the regulator responsible for your region: see the “Your privacy rights and how to complain” section of our Privacy Policy for the Information Commissioner’s Office (UK), your EU/EEA supervisory authority, or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (Australia).
